Ok, the article may mostly be focusing on V Australia going nonstop from Perth to London--(well it is in The West Australian)—but Sydney to New York nonstop?
Currently with a stop in Los Angeles (for fuel and that’s a nigh on 20 hour flight, without a stop I’d reckon that would knock off perhaps 4 hours at best.* Sadistic.
Though I do gladly sing the praises of V Australia.
* It’s been more years than I’d like to remember since I last did a maths class.

personally, i'd prefer a stop somewhere in the middle for long flights like that. so, for new york-sydney, a single stop in honolulu would be ideal.
