A chance hit on Wikipedia last night brought up the story of the Roxanne Wars, a series of singles that lasted nearly a decade.
The hilarious and truly absurd thing about it all? There never was any Roxanne, and the inciting incident is so minor that it's hard to believe that this was making money from Reagan all the way to Clinton.
Rap magazine Fat Lace has a great compendium of the assorted battles which get even sillier the longer the rap "war" goes on.
Seriously, someone with the stage name of Gigolo Tony pulls off (better than his name would imply) the role of a pissed off father hellbent on restoring his daughter's and family's rep via his skillz on the mic.
Pirandello would've eaten this up in cloud covered spoon with Samuel Beckett hydrogen sauce
Yet it seems extremely plausible that characters in this farcical saga would actually have names like Gigolo Tony & Lacey Lace.

that's hilarious. my favorite is the album called "roxanne's a man (the untold story — final chapter)."
