Don't Mess With the Kiwis and their glaciers

Not to make light out of death, but it is rather interesting to note the difference between the New Zealand & Australian coverage of the recent deaths of two men from Australia on a glacier in New Zealand.

The New Zealand coverage: (subtext: We told you someone was going to die...again. I repeat, someone died and it's not our fault that they didn't read the signs. Tourists! Death! Not our fault!)

The Australian coverage: (subtext: Two Melburnians died.)

the deaths are definitely tragic, regardless of whether warning was given.

however, i was greatly amused by the street sign showing a stick figure (with flailing arms) being washed out to sea by an avalanche of ice. what a fascinating job it must be to design street signs to warn people of unusual dangers like these.
