Sergey Lazarev doffs a slightly butcher (because supposedly scruff = butch...at least in modern media semiotics) persona in a collaboration with Russian rapper Timati/y*...that said, the man is wearing a shirt with a rainbow across it (a shout out to Mariah Carey? I thought he was in the Whitney club) and proclaiming he's a "lazerboy for life." One would argue that he's been one since birth with that surname. Either way, this is Lazerboy.
* I'm guessing those pseudonyms are influenced by watching Reservoir Dogs obsessively.
And now for something old, but good: Sheila E's Sex Cymbal. A killer song, but four things stand out for me in the video:
- Two bare-chested men slow dancing together (kind of forward for 1991 pop)
- Sheila E holds her own during the dance break.
- Given the song's title and her fame as a drummer, it's interesting that she doesn't once play the drums in the video.
- The mise-en-scene makes me think that the theme behind the video was a sly critique of Herb Ritts.
1 comment:
both videos are visually sumptuous, but i'm not really grooving on either song.
