My initial reaction is that this was quite funny, but actually I think this is somewhat a smart idea; however, I wonder how much will this cost New Zealand taxpayers?
Only a few days ago, the ABC also ran a story about how the New Zealand dependency of Tokelau--which is only accessable by boat--has petitioned the government to pay for a new boat to replace the 1970s one which is rickety at best.
Wellington's response: It'd cost more to get a new one.
The PM said he'd like to go visit Tokelau, but not on that boat.
I think the task force might find more answers looking at home, than overseas.
At probably a third of the cost, I reckon.

i just looked it up and new zealand's gdp per capita (adjusted for ppp) in 2008 was about $27,000 according to the imf and the world bank. the australian figures for the same period are $36-37,000.
but at least the kiwis are in good company. the australian gdp per capita (again, with ppp adjustment) also beats germany, the uk, france and japan.
instead, new zealand is on par with south korea and the czech republic.
