Left is Right, Up is Down

Former Liberal Party head and Prime Minister John Howard comes out against the establishment of Bill of Rights.

By the way, RIP Ted Kennedy, you had so much more to do.

i think mssr. howard completely misses the point.

the purpose of a bill of rights is not to usurp the authority of a legislative body... but to protect the people from specified actions that may be taken by a legislative body.

so, for example, if a bill of rights guarantees the right to vote for all adults, it would not be possible for a legislature to pass a law purporting to deny that right to women.

besides, having a bill of rights works just fine for everyone else. australia is the only western industrialized country that does not have a constitutional or a legislative bill of rights.
