Eurovision 2007 Preview Review: T is for Turned Out, U is for Unique

Look for the final shakedown after these last three.

Turkey: What happens when you put Ricky Martin in the middle of a Justin Timberlake video? Kenan, of course. Now when Kenan was first announced as the Turkish entrant, I took a listen and a look at Cakkidi, and LOVED it; it was all very macho, sexual, defiant, without being off-putting. This...is not that. Instead, we have Kenan doing a two step in front of a wall while various women lick their lips and shake their things. (And why is everything tinted green?) It's actually kind of prudish in a way. The new mix of the song, however, is a great improvement. One of the better videos this year.

Ukraine: They are not using the new video, which is already a strike against them in my book, but that's nullified by the fact that I do like the song. Anyway, Verka shimmies, Verka does the watusi, Verka does the milkshake, Verka wishes Russia goodbye, all in...bacofoil? At least we all know what we're getting.

United Kingdom: Live performance. (Things tight over at Auntie?) I'm sure the men of Scooch are decent guys, but the way the camera is hitting them makes them look rat-faced. That aside, we have the rats & lasses in flight attendant uniforms pushing trolleys and flags around. Undeniably campy, and so...innoculous (even with the double entendres). Score-wise, it's going to do better than how many think it will, but I wouldn't be surprised if they get a reception like the Lithuanians got in Athens.

And now (drumroll) the top 5:
  1. Georgia (Meditative and energetic at the same time)
  2. Hungary (We love the hellcats on fire here on this part of the internet)
  3. Turkey (If I gave points there would be significant gap between the top 2 and here)
  4. Russia (Those girls look stylish even if they have no clue what they're singing about)
  5. (tie) Romania (As cloying as it is, it's still a damn effective video)/Slovenia (effective for better reasons)

Special note: Had Ukraine used the new video, then they'd be tied with Magdi "I'll cut ya" Rusza for 2nd.
