I'm a POW.
War is bad.
I'm a POW.
But Iran is a threat.
I'm a POW.
I used to be cocky.
I'm a POW.
And so on and so forth for 45 minutes.
It seems that the tone McCain/Palin will take is one McCain being the kind grandfather and Palin, the vicious aunt/sister/nurse.
That being said, there were shreads of the 2000 McCain in there. He is very fortunate that the political climate is so anti-Bush that he explicitly slated his own party in his own acceptance speech.
Perhaps he was being ironic, but his story of losing his "selfish independence," was interpreted by me as McCain having his own catharsis about how he got (read: sold out for) the nomination.

i like your interpretation of the claim that he lost his "selfish independence." seems pretty accurate to me. i just wish people would stop thinking of him as a maverick and start noticing all the ways that he has subordinated his own views to that of the republican establishment.
