Hands up if you think Qantas is going to wind up renationalised.

Make that 30,000,001 as I definitely think so, based on my own experiences* and this article (and the comments).
* Not allowing a passenger to pay for an upgrade--due to lack of ticket purchasing facilities at the gate doesn't bode well for the airline to survive in its current form.
It's just a matter of time, pets.

well, qantas could just partner or merge with another airline (aka "be taken over") -- as it has attempted recently. but that would probably require most of qantas' current managers to lose their jobs. so, perhaps nationalization is a more appealing option.
