Hallelujah, the West Side Stadium plan is nearly dead in the water. This also probably puts the kibosh on the 2012 Olympics. (AMEN!) It also will save 9th Avenue from becoming even more clogged. The only downside is that this will likely delay (if not permanently end) the much-needed expansion to the Javits Center.
Although it is often said that the ends justify the means. It's a bit depressing that the main reason that the vote for public funding [for the stadium] failed was due to the fact that Lower Manhattan State Representative Sheldon Silver was miffed that the stadium would distract funds and focus from his district.
Oh well, that battle will have to wait for another day.
