History Repeating

With much of the current debate about immigration centered around the fact that supposedly "Americans won't do these jobs," it all seems reminescent of the plight of the Helots of Messenia.

I am not as educated nor as coherent as the author of the linked article, but much as the US found out during the Civil Rights Struggles of the 1950's and 1960's, a society cannot exist if there is a two-tier system that keeps groups disenfranchised.

The tension of the future--as it stands now--will be rich versus poor, and we must be willing to accept that things must change so that we are all equal.
