This will be a rather ballad heavy jukebox, but at least they are stand out ballads. However, we start upbeat with Ivana Banfic's performance of "Daj Povedi Me" from Jugovizija 1991, a performance that could clearly be straight out of Paris Is Burning. What's the Croatian equivalent of "Chante'! Chante'! Chante'?"
Next we go to 1975 and the first ever Turkish entry "Seninle Bir Dakika" as performed by Semiha Yanki. Now to all you songwriters and singers out there, this is a love song. She's talking about just a single minute with her beloved. She is racked by so much desire and heartache that just being able to see them for a sodding minute makes life worth living. That desire is such a part of her being that she can barely stand up by the end of the song. That, comrades, is emoting with the best of them. Not to mention that the melody itself can chill you down to the bone.
And finally going even further back to 1971 and Krunoslav Slabinac's performance of "Tvoj dječak je tužan" or "your boy is sad." This is true heartache. Poor Kico has lost his other half and basically throwing himself further into shock. He talks about "the night being long and dark like pain." His bed is empty, he can't sleep, his hair is rendered practically immobile. This man's journey is over. Those lo-fi emo kids ain't got nothing on Kico's pain, I tell you.
